Despite some concerns, the New Port Richey City Council, acting as the Community Redevelopment Agency, approved the purchase of the former Schwettman Education Center for $1.75 million. The property will be used to create a cultural and educational hub, potentiallly with educational programs, art galleries, and nonprofit spaces. The deal with the Pasco County school district includes new conditions such as a ban on multifamily housing, a shortened payment window, a proposed interest charge, limitations on zoning changes, historic designation, and property improvements until the city pays off the site in full.
