The City Council of New Port Richey approved a request to replace the grass by the bandshell in Sims Park with artificial turf. The decision was made due to the significant growth in special events and traffic in the park, as well as issues with uneven surface and heavy shade that caused the lawn to decline. The initial cost of artificial turf is $231,708, but it will result in savings in the long run and resolve issues such as falls and extreme weather conditions.
