An emu farmer’s report of a dead animal led to the discovery of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus (EEEV) in Pasco County. The mosquito-borne virus, which can be fatal to humans and animals, arrived earlier than usual this year. The Pasco County Mosquito Control District issued an advisory and began treatment and surveillance efforts.
