The first golf course in New Port Richey was not Jasmine Point, as commonly believed, but the New Port Richey Golf & Country Club. Founded in 1925, it was a public course that thrived for two years until it was overshadowed by the more elite Jasmine Point Golf Course. Gene Sarazen, the dominant PGA pro golfer in the 1920s, helped design the Jasmine Point course and lived near the original course’s location.
