Florida Bay Scalloping Season Reopens After Toxin Levels Drop

The recreational bay scallop harvest in Pasco, Florida had to be temporarily closed due to unsafe toxin levels caused by an algal bloom. However, after continuous testing, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced that it is safe to reopen the season and extended it through September 24. The season will reopen on July 27, and it is recommended to only eat the scallop muscle and avoid consuming the whole scallop or the roe. The 2025 season will open from July 10 to Aug. 18.
