Florida Law Changes Remarkably Affect Teen Learner’s Permit Process

A new Florida law increasing requirements for getting a learner’s permit may make the process longer or more expensive, causing concern for parents and tax collectors. The law requires a six-hour driver’s education course instead of the current four-hour traffic law and substance abuse course. Many schools and districts might not offer the six-hour course, potentially forcing parents to seek private vendors. The law’s timing is raising questions, and parents are being encouraged to act quickly if their teenagers are between 14.5 and 17 years old.
