Florida’s Rising High School Graduation Rate: A Closer Look

Florida’s high school graduation rate has risen to an all-time high of 89.7%, but this contradicts other metrics like low SAT scores, poor performance on the National Assessment of Educational Progress, and low scores on the state Algebra I exam. The increase in graduation rates can be attributed to the growing use of state-approved alternative tests, which some argue are easier and don’t prepare students as well for life after high school, while others argue they are a critical resource for students who might otherwise have fallen by the wayside.
