The Centers for Disease Control has issued a food safety alert for an outbreak of listeria in 21 states, linked to shake supplements frequently used in hospitals and nursing homes. As of Monday, 38 cases of infection have been reported, with 37 hospitalizations and 12 deaths. The FDA traced the outbreak to 4-ounce containers of Lyons ReadyCare and Sysco Imperial frozen supplemental shakes.
