New Retail Development in Wesley Chapel Sparks Debate

A privately-held commercial developer, SJC Ventures, submitted plans for a high-end retail center on a vacant site in Wesley Chapel. The initial plans included a Whole Foods grocery store and a Life Time Fitness center, but the developer withdrew them after a judge approved a Chapter 11 bankruptcy for Joann Fabrics & Crafts. The new site plan includes a 35,518 sq. ft. Whole Foods building and an 84,500 sq. ft. Life Time Fitness building, with other store spaces. The plaza is expected to be ready in 2027, and Aldi has leased the Winn-Dixie location, marking a significant shift in the area’s retail landscape.
