The Pasco County Mosquito Control District is implementing a sterile insect technique to reduce the population of aedes aegypti, a primary carrier of diseases like yellow fever, Zika, and dengue. The eight-week trial started on May 8, with 30,000 sterilized male mosquitoes released each week in a 30-acre site. If successful, the district plans to add this method to its mosquito control strategies.
