Florida wildlife officials have temporarily closed all state waters along Pasco County to recreational scallop harvesting due to the detection of potentially harmful levels of an algal bloom called Pyrodinium bahamense and the toxins it creates. The closure is expected to disrupt plans for boaters and snorkelers who anticipated scallop hunting in the area.
