Port Richey Council Member Proposes Strong-mayor Government

Following the resignation of the city manager, a new city council member, Chris Maher, has proposed a change to a strong-mayor form of government. This would give the Mayor significant executive power, including the ability to appoint and remove department heads, draft proposals for the budget, and exercise veto power over council actions. The proposal is controversial, with concerns about drawing from a smaller pool of mayoral candidates and the potential for a new mayor every three years.
