In the wake of the resignation of City Manager Matthew Coppler, Port Richey City Council is considering a change to a strong-mayor form of government, which would give the mayor significant executive power. Council member Dave Mueller expressed concerns about finding a suitable mayor as they would have to reside in the city, while Chris Maher argued that a resident would be more committed to the city. The change would require a charter amendment and a public referendum, as well as a complete overhaul of the city code.
