Pasco County, Florida is dealing with a growing concern about the clearing of thousands of acres of land for new developments, particularly the practice of clear-cutting which removes all standing trees. Sasha Bartunek, conservation chair with the Suncoast Sierra Club, expresses her worry about the environmental impact and loss of aesthetic beauty. The Planning Commission is reviewing a 20-year-old tree preservation ordinance, considering to increase fees for tree removal and create incentives for developers to preserve trees.
