Two Florida school districts, Pasco and Pinellas, have given initial approval to reduce property tax rates for local residents, while also proposing to increase the local-option property tax. The decrease in the regular tax rate is due to the increase in property values, which compensates the revenue loss. The extra revenue from the local-option tax is needed to fund teacher salary bonuses and other expenses.
