The Selma Jubilee Festival in March 1965 was a significant event in American history. The Martin Luther King Jr.-led voting rights march from Selma to Montgomery was met with opposition from state troopers and county law enforcement, resulting in severe injuries, including the death of Rep. John Lewis. Despite the hardship, King and others continued to fight for civil rights and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson.
