State Board Threatens School District With Legal Action Over Library Books

Hillsborough County school superintendent faced threats and demands from the State Board of Education to remove books deemed pornographic by board members. The State Board gave Ayres two weeks to permanently remove the offending books, or face legal action from the Department of Education and Attorney General’s office. The issue at hand ostensibly was about books, but a bigger question soon emerged: Does government rely on rules, processes, and procedures? Or does executive fiat carry the day?
