West Pasco County did not have a public beach until the 1920s. Visitors traveled to Clearwater Beach and other locations to cool off. In 1922, a plan was developed to build a road to the Gulf and a bathing beach, but it languished. Finally, in 1929, George Sims donated land for a beach.
