Excitement is building in New Port Richey for the April 8 total solar eclipse, despite not being in the path of totality. The moon will cover about 57.9% of the sun at the peak of the eclipse in Pasco County. Various organizations and venues are hosting eclipse-viewing events throughout the area. The eclipse will last about 2 hours and 31 minutes from beginning to end, with a clear day and low cloud coverage expected in New Port Richey.
