Union Membership In US Hits Record Low, But Renewed Interest Remains

Union membership in the United States dropped to its lowest point in decades, with only 9.9% of American workers being union members in 2024. Despite the decline, unionized workers continue to earn 17.5% more than non-union workers. Regions with stronger union laws, such as the Pacific and Northeast, have higher unionization rates, while states with ‘right-to-work’ laws have lower rates.
