Angeline High School Golf Team Improves Scores With Young Talent And Smart Shots

The Angeline High School boys golf team, known as the Archers, is showing significant improvement this season despite having only one senior and several freshmen on the roster. Coach Johnny Spinelli has transformed the program from scratch by instilling a strong work ethic and strategic approach to the game. The team currently holds a 6-2 record with recent victories over Zephyrhills, Cypress Creek, and Land O Lakes, while narrowly losing to Sunlake by one stroke. Freshman Brennan Hyde leads the team as their top golfer, having shot under 35 twice this season in key wins. Spinelli emphasizes that his players do not take a break during the offseason like many other high school athletes, instead continuing to practice and compete in junior events year-round. The team has made remarkable physical progress, with most players now hitting drives over 260 yards compared to just 200 yards as seventh graders. Beyond physical improvements, the team has developed mentally by learning to play smarter shots and make better club selections based on course conditions. Looking ahead, the Archers aim to finish higher in their conference standings and potentially send an individual player or the entire team to regionals in the district tournament.
