Nearly 2,000 participants gathered at Sims Park this weekend for the 17th Annual RAP River Run, a fundraising event benefiting the RAP House and Youth and Family Advocates. The event included a 10K race, a 5K run and walk, and a Kids Adventure Run to support services for children and families in crisis. Susan Eby, incoming CEO of Youth and Family Advocates, explained that the RAP House is a 24-bed emergency shelter for youth facing homelessness, behavioral challenges, or family instability due to involvement with the child welfare system. Stefanie Pontlitz noted that the shelter provides short-term housing for children aged 10 to 17 who are transitioning between foster care units or awaiting adoption. Mark Wickham, current CEO, emphasized the growing community support and volunteer involvement that make the annual race possible. Funds raised help provide meals, clothing, counseling, case management, and safe housing for young people in need throughout the year. Youth and Family Advocates has operated in Pasco County for 56 years and now serves across 10 counties with prevention services, juvenile justice support, behavioral health services, and affordable housing options. The organization aims to create stable environments where youth can receive necessary services before returning to their families and communities.
