Community rallies to support recovering 10-year-old after tragic accident

Ten-year-old Asher Thompson is making steady progress in his recovery following a severe brain bleed caused by a vehicle collision. His mother, Jackie Almeida, described the experience as the most difficult of her life but remains hopeful as Asher prepares to leave the hospital next week for skilled nursing care. The family faces significant financial challenges due to ongoing medical expenses and loss of reliable transportation. In response to the tragedy, local businesses and community organizations organized fundraisers at W.H. Jack Mitchell Park and East Main Street Coffee Shop. Approximately 300 people attended events featuring bounce houses, food trucks, and other activities to raise money for the Thompson family. While charges against the drivers remain unconfirmed, the community’s support has provided crucial assistance during this difficult time.
