Nearly 170 Team Florida athletes are competing in more than 16 sports at the Special Olympics USA Games opening ceremony happening this Saturday in Minneapolis. Laura Wuerker from New Port Richey is part of the golf team and has been practicing twice a week at Timber Greens Country Club ahead of the tournament. She is excited to represent her hometown and Florida while competing alongside her teammates. Her coach Mary Beth Radigan praises Wuerker for her drive, spirit, and positive energy, noting she is one of their leaders. Radigan emphasizes that Special Olympics provides lasting support and friendships for athletes after high school. Wuerker finds the experience motivating and inspiring, hoping to win more medals while enjoying the competition with her team.
