The area now known as Hudson was first settled in 1868, growing into a small fishing and farming village with the arrival of a railroad in 1904. The town’s first hotel, Gulf Springs Lodge, opened in 1927 but was later destroyed by fire. Residents longed for a beach on the Gulf of Mexico, and in 1956, a subdivision called Hudson Beach Estates was developed, promising a public beach. However, the beach’s construction was delayed, causing community dissatisfaction. Eventually, the County took over construction, and in 1960, a water line was run to the property. Over time, the beach became a popular attraction, with additions like a boat ramp, new pavilions, and an observation tower.
