Land O Lakes Baseball Coach Reaches State Semifinals After 42 Years

Calvin Baisley has coached the Land O’ Lakes High School varsity baseball team for 42 years, accumulating over 700 wins and having the field named in his honor. Despite his long and decorated career, he had never led the team to a Class 6A State Semifinals appearance — until now. The season started rough, with the Gators dropping to a 4-3 record after a loss to River Ridge. Baisley delivered a powerful postgame talk, telling players they were the worst team he had ever coached, which became the turning point. The team went on a 10-game winning streak and won 17 of their last 19 regular season games. Land O’ Lakes will face St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft. Myers on Friday for a chance at a state title.
