New Port Richey Residents Face Scams, Inmates Rescue Baby From Locked Car

Three scams were reported to the Better Business Bureau in New Port Richey for the week ending June 27, 2026. One incident involved a $470 loss from an online T-shirt order. Officials warn that fraud losses are increasing nationwide and encourage residents to use the BBB Scam Tracker to report suspicious activity. In a separate heartwarming story, inmates at New Port Richey’s West Pasco Judicial Center helped rescue a one-year-old child accidentally locked in a car. The incident occurred in early 2019 when low-risk offenders used a coat hanger and calm reassurance to free the child and reunite them with their parents. The event was captured on video by the mother, Shadow Lantry, and later resurfaced on social media highlighting how inmates stepped up to help. Local businesses are also promoting community engagement through events like the Tarpon Springs Craft Festival and various library activities.
