A Pasco County couple lost their entire mobile home in a fire that began around 8:30 p.m. on August 31 in Zephyrhills. Steve Sims returned from walking his dog to find flames engulfing his property, while his wife Rebecca managed to escape safely. Firefighters determined the blaze was caused by a lithium-ion battery located in a shed near the home where landscaping equipment had been charging. The fire destroyed all of their possessions, including Rebecca’s prosthetic leg and her mobility lift following a previous amputation from a blood clot two years ago. Neighbors expressed sympathy for the couple who described their situation as too much bad luck, with one neighbor creating a GoFundMe page to help them rebuild.
