Pasco County Fire Department Introduces New D-Shift for Better Mental Health

Pasco County Fire Rescue is implementing a new ‘D-shift’ schedule to improve firefighter mental health by reducing overtime and increasing rest periods. The shift, the result of three years of collaboration between labor and administration, replaces traditional 24-hour shifts with 24-hour shifts followed by 72 hours of rest. The change aims to address health risks like cancer, PTSD, and family strain caused by excessive work hours, positioning the department as a top workplace in Florida.
