The West Pasco Girls Fast-Pitch Softball Association is hosting the Dixie Softball World Series for the first time since the 1980s, bringing together dozens of teams from across ten states to compete in Odessa, Florida. Two local teams, the Belles and the Debs, are participating in different age divisions during the event which runs from July 25 through July 28. Two standout players from the Debs team, Kyanna Olampo and Kiley Collins, are making this tournament particularly meaningful as it marks the conclusion of their fifteen-year softball journey together. Olampo, who survived acute lymphoblastic leukemia starting at age three, fought through extensive chemotherapy before returning to play just six years old. Both athletes developed an unbreakable bond while serving as pitcher and catcher for each other throughout their careers, often describing their partnership as family-like despite not being related by blood. Collins recently discovered years ago that Olampo had battled cancer, adding deeper significance to their shared experience on the field. As both players reach retirement age in the sport, this final tournament represents their collective dream of ending their Dixie careers with a championship title. The duo hopes their story will inspire others while competing one last time together against fierce regional competition.
