Pasco County voters will vote in November on whether to continue paying a school district property tax. The County Commission unanimously decided to place this referendum on the 2026 ballot along with other Florida districts. School Superintendent John Legg explained that after the 2022 referendum passed, job vacancies dropped as salaries became more competitive. If voters reject the measure or dont vote on it, district employees would face approximately 12% pay cuts. Commissioners agreed that not being competitive in pay would hurt hiring and retention efforts. Quality education remains a priority for the community according to Commissioner Kathryn Starkey. This tax initiative mirrors approved sales tax measures used for county improvement
