Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco announced he will resign in November 2024 after 15 years leading the Pasco Sheriff’s Office, as he prepares to run for another elected office. Appointed by former Governor Rick Scott in 2011, Nocco was subsequently elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2016, 2020, and 2024. His law enforcement career spans roles with the Philadelphia Public School Police, Fairfax County Police, Broward County Sheriff’s Office, and service as a first responder during the 9/11 attacks, the D.C. sniper attacks, and anthrax incidents. Nocco also worked in state government, serving in the Florida House of Representatives’ Policy Office and as deputy chief of staff to then-House Speaker Marco Rubio. Under his leadership, PSO adopted body-worn cameras, developed Florida’s F1RST forensic training center, expanded veteran hiring, and earned recognition for its School Resource Officer unit. Nocco has not yet announced which office he intends to seek but pledged full commitment to his duties until his resignation in November.
