Richey Suncoast Theatre Launches Centennial Restoration Campaign for Future Preservation

The Richey Suncoast Theatre in New Port Richey is celebrating its 100th anniversary while launching a capital campaign to ensure its survival for another century. The initiative, titled Every Legend Deserves an Encore, aims to restore the historic building’s exterior facade and replace windows and doors to prevent water damage. Executive Director Susie Saxe emphasized that preserving the architectural character is vital for protecting the structure for future generations. Following exterior repairs, plans include restoring the interior to reflect its original 1920s Spanish Revival style. The theater, which opened in 1926 as the Thomas Meighan Theatre, has undergone several name changes and renovations over its long history. Recent upgrades have included a new roof, solar panels, and modern air conditioning to improve energy efficiency. Staff members describe the venue as a beloved community landmark that has survived wars and recessions while maintaining its core values. Upcoming centennial events feature performances of 1776 and Frozen Jr., alongside tribute concerts honoring classic rock bands. The organization seeks donations to support these restoration efforts and maintain the theater’s role in local arts culture.
