Two seventh graders at Rushe Middle School won a national documentary competition honor for their Civil Rights film. Fiore Smetana and Dominic Bellino created the documentary for their social studies class and submitted it to C-SPAN. Thousands of students from 38 states entered the contest to explore America’s 250th anniversary. Their project utilized historical photos, narration, and interviews to explore the movement’s impact on history. Teacher Anthony Engel praised their collaboration during the difficult national competition process. Both students plan to submit another entry next year and discussed how to invest their cash prize.
