Tampa Bay Letter Carriers Lead Stamp Out Hunger Drive

Letter carriers across the Tampa Bay area are preparing for Saturday’s annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive, the nation’s largest single‑day food collection effort. Residents can fill plastic bags with nonperishable items such as canned vegetables, soup, pasta, rice, peanut butter, and cereal and leave them by their mailboxes for pickup. In New Port Richey, collected food will be delivered to The Volunteer Way, where demand continues to rise while donations lag behind. CEO Jeannine Xanthopoulos said the organization has had to reduce portions because of cutbacks and fewer contributions. The pantry now serves about 40 new families each week, and the drive is expected to provide roughly 80 pallets of food, enough to last through September. Food insecurity remains a growing concern in Florida, affecting working families, seniors, and people on fixed incomes. The Stamp Out Hunger initiative, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, aims to bridge the gap between need and supply in communities nationwide.
