Two Men Set To Face Execution In Florida On July 28

Florida authorities have scheduled the executions of James Duckett and Dominick Occhicone for July 28 at Florida State Prison. Duckett, a former Lake County police officer convicted of murdering a woman in 1986, will be executed at noon. Occhicone, who killed his former girlfriend’s parents in 1986 and is currently the oldest person on Florida’s death row, will be put to death at 6 p.m. This marks the first time since the state reinstated capital punishment in 1976 that two executions are planned for the same day. Prior to these scheduled deaths, 74-year-old Dennis Sochor became the oldest person ever executed in Florida after being put to death earlier in the week. Both cases highlight ongoing legal proceedings and the state’s continued use of lethal injection as its method of carrying out death sentences.
