Driver Charged With DUI Manslaughter After Killing Road Ranger In Lutz Crash

The Florida Highway Patrol has identified Darren Jenkins, 40, as the driver responsible for killing a 24-year-old road ranger in Lutz. The fatal crash occurred on Sunday evening when Jenkins drove his Acura MDX between two FDOT vehicles and struck the worker. Troopers reported that Jenkins had an alcohol concentration of 0.334, which is more than four times the legal limit. He was also observed drinking mouthwash while in the driver’s seat and showed clear signs of intoxication during testing. Jenkins was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter before being taken to the Pasco County Jail. Authorities revealed that he was involved in a hit-and-run crash in Ocala on the same day as the fatal incident. Additionally, Jenkins had a prior DUI arrest in Georgia from June 12, leading troopers to request he be held without bond.
