A Florida Department of Transportation Road Ranger was killed while assisting at a crash scene on Interstate 75 near Wesley Chapel. The incident occurred Sunday evening when an Acura SUV struck the 24-year-old worker who was setting up lane closures. Police identified the driver as Darren Jenkins, a 40-year-old man from Bradenton, who has been arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter. Investigators reported that Jenkins provided a breath sample measuring 0.334, which is more than four times the legal limit in Florida. He was subsequently taken into custody at the Pasco County Jail following the arrest. Local towing business owner Ginger Darling emphasized the dangers faced by roadside workers and urged drivers to move over for flashing lights. The Florida Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the fatal crash while withholding the identity of the deceased Road Ranger.
