Florida Film Production Stays Local to Honor History

Showrunner Todd Wiseman Jr. has produced a television adaptation of Patrick Smith’s novel A Land Remembered in rural Hudson, Florida. The production chose to film locally despite Hollywood suggestions to move to Georgia, ensuring an authentic portrayal of the state’s history. Funding came from $500,000 each from the Florida Legislature and Tampa Bay Film Commission, plus private investments from local business leaders and ranchers. The series follows three generations of the MacIvey family building a cattle and citrus empire between 1858 and 1968. A notable scene recreates a Calusa attack on a Spanish settlement, filmed in one continuous 2.5-minute shot after extensive preparation. Principal photography is set to conclude in early 2027, with a planned premiere later that year once a distribution deal is secured. The project aims to promote Florida’s natural landscapes and encourage the state to reinstate tax incentives for local film and television productions.

Key Points:

  • The production secured $500,000 from the Florida Legislature and an equal amount from the Tampa Bay Film Commission.
