Florida’s Freshwater Springs Under Threat From Pollution And Climate Change

Florida’s freshwater springs, a popular tourist attraction, are facing threats from agricultural pollution, rapid development, and climate change. Some springs, such as Crystal Springs in Zephyrhills, are struggling to maintain their water supply due to limits on drinking water withdrawal from the Floridan Aquifer. The rapid growth in Florida’s population is leading to more development, which in turn, contributes to pollution and the loss of seagrasses, biodiversity, and even drinking water quality.
