Historic Richey Suncoast Theatre Celebrates Century of Community Arts

The Richey Suncoast Theatre in New Port Richey marked its 100th anniversary, reflecting on a century of entertainment that began with a 1926 silent film screening. After periods of closure in the 1950s and 1960s, local residents rescued the venue in 1972, transforming it into a nonprofit community arts center. Today the theatre hosts live music, comedy, children’s programs, and summer camps, contributing to downtown economic activity. Recent upgrades include a solar energy system, while ongoing restoration aims to return the façade and windows to their historic appearance. Renovations are projected to cost at least $500,000, with volunteers already repairing the stucco. To commemorate the milestone, the theatre screened the original film again, offering tickets at the historic price of 25 cents.
