Lutz Celebrates Independence Day With Parade And New GuvNa Announcement

The annual Lutz Independence Day Parade and festivals celebrated America’s 250th birthday on July 4 with vibrant red, white, and blue decorations. Dozens of floats from local businesses, Boy and Girl Scout troops, and youth sports teams paraded down Lutz Lake Fern Road while distributing beads and other goodies to attendees. Some floats even passed out bottled water and used water guns to splash the hundreds of locals who attended the celebration. Other activities included an early morning 5K and 1-mile fun run, local vendors giving away prizes, and a cake raffle that raises money for local charities. The GFWC Lutz-Land O Lakes Woman’s Club, affectionately known as The Green Shirts, organizes this annual event along with the parade and auctions. After the parade at the historic Train Depot in front of the Lutz Branch Library, a proclamation and swearing-in ceremony took place for the newly appointed Lutz GuvNa. This unofficial government position is awarded to a Lutz resident who raises the most money for local charities during campaign season. Brigitte Shaw, owner of SouthernEaze Bar and Grill at Livingston Avenue and Sunset Lane, was named the 2026 Lutz GuvNa.
