Dade City Nurse Saves Roofer Struck By Lightning During Storm

A Dade City nurse named Sadie Collura used her medical training to save a roofer who was struck by lightning while working near her home. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when severe storms moved through Pasco County, resulting in two separate lightning strikes that hospitalized two men. Collura heard the loud boom of the lightning strike and immediately ran outside to check on the roofing crew members. She found one worker standing under a tree who had been hit by lightning while not actually on the roof. Using her nursing background, Collura performed CPR with chest compressions while her co-workers assisted with rescue breaths until paramedics arrived. The roofer was hospitalized in critical condition while another man struck moments later across town suffered less serious injuries. This incident highlights Florida’s dangerous lightning statistics and demonstrates how anyone can become a first responder during emergencies.
