Major Changes to Magnet School Transportation in Pasco County

The Pasco County School District announced a plan to significantly reduce available bus seats for students attending magnet and gifted schools. Starting in the upcoming school year, the district will cut magnet school transportation seats by approximately one-third, reallocating up to 17 buses back to neighborhood routes. This change creates a lottery system for access and leaves those who don’t win in a waiting list. School superintendent John Legg stated the move is necessary to improve on-time transportation for traditional schools, though board members and parents have criticized the timing and potential impact on educational access.
