NTSB Releases Preliminary Findings on Land O Lakes Plane Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board released preliminary findings on an April 19 crash in a Land O Lakes subdivision that killed 59‑year‑old pilot Michael Bailey. Surveillance footage showed Bailey boarding a two‑engine airplane at Tampa North Aero Park, starting engines, and taking off. The aircraft climbed to about 200 feet, then plumes of smoke appeared as it returned to ground, resulting in a 30‑second flight that ended in a fiery impact. Witnesses heard the engine power drop and observed the plane entering a descending left turn before falling out of sight. With the fuselage, cockpit, and cabin engulfed by fire, many investigative indicators were unusable, and the cause remains undetermined as the investigation continues.
