Pasco County has announced a significant milestone in its land conservation efforts by acquiring the 4G Ranch property, which spans over 1,800 acres of natural land. This acquisition represents the largest single land purchase by the county to date and is part of the long-running Environmental Lands Acquisition and Management Program that began more than two decades ago. The newly acquired land will serve as a crucial ecological corridor connecting existing preserves including Cross Bar Arbor Ranch and Conner Preserve, creating a larger protected network for wildlife and natural habitats. County officials emphasize that this strategic acquisition helps stretch local tax dollars by pairing them with state and federal funding sources to protect environmentally significant areas from future development. The initiative is made possible through the Penny for Pasco tax, where twenty percent of revenue is specifically allocated to land acquisition efforts within the ELAMP program. Local commissioners highlight that preserving these natural spaces ensures better living conditions for current and future generations by limiting urban development in sensitive ecological areas. Looking ahead, the county plans additional conservation measures including a wildlife under-crossing on State Road 52 to further support biodiversity and habitat connectivity across the region.
