Pasco County commissioners have unanimously approved a $250,000 grant to encourage the producers of the television adaptation of “A Land Remembered” to return and film more scenes in the county next year. The production team previously filmed portions of their first season across Florida, including significant work at Vogel Ranch where they recreated the Battle of Olustee. District 3 Commissioner Kathryn Starkey emphasized the desire to showcase remaining natural landscapes in areas like Dade City and the Withlacoochee River region. The series is based on Patrick D. Smith’s historical novel about three generations of a Florida family transforming swamp land into a commercial empire. While the privately financed project has received additional funding from the state and Film Tampa Bay totaling $500,000 each, it has faced some controversies including environmental concerns at Fort De Soto Park and allegations from PETA regarding animal treatment on set. The show is scheduled for release in early 2027 with potential for future seasons depending on its success in entertainment markets.
