Pasco County Protects Nearly 1900 Acres of Ranchland in Historic Conservation Deal

Pasco County has completed its largest land preservation project, securing nearly 1,900 acres of ranchland in eastern Pasco through a conservation easement. The 4G Ranch property represents the biggest acquisition under the Environmental Lands Acquisition and Management Program, with costs shared between the county and Florida state at approximately $68 million. Officials emphasize this purchase preserves critical wildlife habitat, water resources, and open space as development accelerates in the region. The land serves as an important ecological corridor connecting several protected areas across eastern Pasco County while supporting a working cattle ranch operation. Despite national recognition for the county’s beneficial water reuse project on the property, some residents question the use of taxpayer funds for privately owned conservation easements that do not provide public park access.
