Pasco County School Tax Referendum Approval Sought in November Vote

Pasco County voters will decide in November whether to renew a property tax referendum that funds salaries for Pasco County Schools. A community group called People for Pasco, led by local mother Denise Nicholas, is campaigning to inform residents about the referendum’s importance. The current levy, set to expire in June 2027, provides supplemental pay for both instructional and non-instructional staff, and officials warn that without it teacher salaries could drop by 12 percent, making the district less competitive. Nicholas highlights her personal experience with unstable staffing and supports the measure to ensure full-time teachers and competitive wages. While supporters argue the tax sustains quality education, opponents contend that salaries should not depend on a tax referendum, noting that homeowners already pay an average of $300 annually for the school tax.
