Pasco County Suncoast Trail Gets New Overpasses For Safer Commuting

The Florida Department of Transportation is constructing two new pedestrian and bicycle overpasses along the Suncoast Trail in central Pasco County. These projects aim to provide safer crossing options for walkers and cyclists over two of the area’s busiest roads, with an estimated combined cost of $18.9 million. Construction on the first overpass at State Road 52 began in January, while work on a second overpass at State Road 54 is scheduled to start on June 22. Both structures are tentatively expected to open during the first half of 2027. During construction of the SR 54 project, the trailhead at Touchpoint Drive will be temporarily closed, directing users to an alternative access point in Hillsborough County. The ongoing work has already created some traffic congestion for drivers entering and exiting the Suncoast Parkway near State Road 52.
